Learn more about permanent carbon capture and storage methods.

There are several methods of capturing CO2 from the atmosphere. Some are more effective others less so. At the same time, not all solutions can guarantee the permanent storage of carbon dioxide. Some methods run the risk of releasing CO2 back into the atmosphere within a few decades or a few hundred years. To avoid this, we support those methods that make it possible to store the dioxide for tens of thousands of years, reducing the risk of unwanted CO2 leakage.

Direct Air Capture

Direct air capture (DAC) technologies extract CO2 directly from the atmosphere at any location, unlike carbon capture which is generally carried out at the point of emissions, such as a steel plant. The CO2 can be permanently stored in deep geological formations or used for a variety of applications.

Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage

Bioenergy with carbon capture and storage, or BECCS, involves capturing and permanently storing CO2 from processes where biomass is converted into fuels or directly burned to generate energy. Plants absorb CO2 as they grow, this is a way of removing CO2 from the atmosphere.
